London Calls: Fashion Week - Fall Collections 2014

London Calls: Fashion Week 2014 It’s better late than ever. We’re already on Spring and I’m still obsessed about these past fashion weeks. February 14th was the start of this special week for all british designers, brands, bloggers and models; the start of one of my favorite weeks ever, London Fashion Week. If I may be already obsessed with everything british, this makes it worse… So let me share some of my favorite looks of various relevant designers/fashion households.

HOUSE OF HOLLAND
photo HOH_zpsb13a08d6.png Henry Holland was all about blinding colors (Orange, Fuschia, Green), rich textures (Taffetta, Sequins, Metallic Leather), and sparkling embroideries. He tried to indulge a fun twist meets 80’s style with accessories like shoes with fur pompoms and clutch bags dangling sparkly watermelon charms.

TOPSHOP UNIQUE
photo TU_zps96b7425a.png This year Topshop offered us a pileup of short and glossy puffer jackets, thistle-embroidered sweatshirts, leather jogging shorts and thigh-high boots. Their outerware was particularly strong, including fluffy blue mohair robe coats, camel capes with fur-capped shoulders, and meaty trenchcoats with fur-lined hoods.

MARY KATRANTZOU

Bold, digitally generated prints is what mainly describes this year’s Mary Katrantzou RTW fall collection. Lace, brocades, pleats and chain mail were highly present throughout the whole collection. Amidst all that decoration, some of the plainest clothes were the most striking, including lean wool topcoats and long skirts in color-blocked knife pleats.

BURBERRY PRORSUM

Naïve, smudgy flowers blossomed as prints on scarves and silk crepe dresses. Other versions were painted on lightweight silk cotton trenchcoats as well as leather, suede and shearling coats, toggle belts and short boots. Bailey had his Scottish mills weave a stack of wool and cashmere blankets in stripes and geometric patterns (resembling ponchos).

TOM FORD

Ford’s inspiration for this collection were his two residences in Santa Fe, N.M., and London, which fed the twin themes of the show: iconic styles from the American West and the pert proportions of the Swinging Sixties. He replaced overt sexiness with a sporty allure. Wool tunics and tops had simple necklines that were either slashed or lace-up; hooded sweater dresses came with kangaroo pockets. His signature look was a sparkling dress bearing the number 61 (Tom Ford’s birth year), the one we can see celebrities wearing it such as Jay- Z & Beyonce.
